As a complement to our in-depth visit to the emblematic Sagrada Familia, we get beyond Gaudí and enjoy one the masterpieces of Lluís Domènech i Montaner - a leading light in the wider modernist circle. For those wishing to cover more ground with limited time, we complement the iconic Sagrada Familia basilica with a visit to the Paseo de Gracia - the boulevard that made the city tick - and location of Gaudí’s famous La Pedrera and Casa Batlló apartment buildings. We also drive up and over the Montjuïc hill and revisit key moments and events such as the 1929 International Exhibition and 1992 Olympic Games - stopping to enjoy great views as we go. We finish with a small taste of the old town.

Picasso’s Barcelona

Barcelona’s role in converting student into master

We travel back to the end of the 19th C and the arrival of Picasso and his family in the city of Barcelona. We discover the places where he worked, rested and played during his formative years and transport ourselves back to the city of opportunities that propelled Picasso into the limelight.  We then visit the world’s first Picasso museum, promoted by the artist himself in the town he called home in Spain.

Starting in the present day, we use the illustrious Paseo de Gracia boulevard as a guiding line to travel back through the key periods of the city’s history. We touch on the glorious Modernist era of Gaudí and take in the exteriors of key buildings and monuments such as La Pedrera and Casa Batlló, we understand the industrialisation and expansion of the city beyond its medieval walls, and finish with a taste of Gothic splendour and the initial Roman establishment as a colony.

Known locally as a mountain, Montjuïc hill commands views over both the city and the sea and hosts a plethora of interesting sights.
